Psychiatric Assessments
We offer comprehensive psychiatric assessments and ongoing treatment for children and adolescents struggling with eating disorders. Our Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist assesses and manages medical risk, whilst working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to ensure you or your child meet their recovery goals.
Psychiatry-Led Eating Disorder Initial Assessments:
Pre-Assessment Preparation: Prior to your appointment, you will be asked to complete psychological screening tools and provide any relevant previous assessments. This allows our psychiatrist to review your child’s history and gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation before your visit.
Comprehensive Evaluation: During the assessment, our Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist will conduct a detailed medical, social, and psychological evaluation. This includes dedicated time to speak with both young people and parents/guardians separately, ensuring all perspectives are considered.
Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Based on the assessment, our psychiatrist will formulate a diagnosis and develop a personalised treatment plan. We will explain the diagnosis clearly and discuss the most effective evidence-based treatment options. You will also receive support to help you understand your condition and learn practical strategies for managing it.
Collaboration and Referrals: We will work closely with your GP and other healthcare providers. We will write to your child’s GP requesting any necessary additional referrals or, when possible, make referrals directly.
Medication Discussion: Depending on the available time, we may be able to discuss medication options during the initial assessment. However, in some cases, a follow-up appointment may be required. Please let us know in advance if you wish to discuss medication so we can assess if this is possible during the initial appointment.
Eligibility and Suitability: This assessment is designed for individuals under 18 experiencing restrictive eating, compensatory behaviours, or binge eating. After booking, we will contact you to discuss risk and ensure this is the appropriate appointment type for your needs. Depending on the level of risk, we may recommend alternative specialist services that are better suited to your current clinical needs.
Location and Cost: This appointment will take place at our Church Road clinic. The cost is £1250.
