Your journey with The Eating Disorder Service

At The Family Treatment Service, we understand that reaching out for support can feel like a significant step. Our team is here to guide you through the process with care, professionalism, and understanding, ensuring you feel supported from your first contact with us through every stage of your journey.

01 Get in Touch

Once you have completed our referral form, the information you provide will be carefully reviewed by our clinical team. This allows us to understand your needs and ensure that we can offer the most appropriate support, taking into account your current circumstances, any risks that may need consideration, and the treatment options available within our service.

Our aim is always to ensure that you receive the right care, from the right professionals, at the right time.

02 Your Initial Assessment

If we believe our service is a suitable fit for your needs, we will invite you to attend an initial assessment.

This assessment is conducted by a member of our multidisciplinary team and provides an opportunity for us to get to know you as an individual, not simply the difficulties that may have brought you to seek support. We will explore your personal goals for treatment, gain a deeper understanding of your concerns, and begin to build a picture of the support that will be most helpful for you.

03 Understanding Your Story

During the assessment, we take a thoughtful and holistic approach to understanding your experiences. Together, we will explore:

  • The history of your current concerns

  • Your personal, family, and social circumstances

  • Your existing support networks

  • Previous therapeutic or mental health support you may have received

  • Approaches that have been helpful in the past, as well as those that have been less effective

  • Your hopes and goals for recovery and wellbeing

This conversation helps us develop a clear understanding of your individual needs and identify the most appropriate path forward.

04 Creating Your Personalised Treatment Plan

Following your assessment, we will carefully consider the information gathered and make recommendations tailored to your needs.

In some cases, we may be able to recommend a clinician and treatment approach immediately. For more complex presentations, your assessment may be discussed within our multidisciplinary team meeting, where experienced clinicians collaborate to ensure we are recommending the most appropriate therapeutic approach and practitioner for your circumstances.

We may also recommend ongoing referrals to other specialists for example blood biochemistry from your GP.

This collaborative process helps us provide thoughtful, evidence-based recommendations that support meaningful and lasting recovery.

05 Begin Treatment

Once your treatment recommendations have been agreed, we will invite you to arrange your first appointments and begin your therapeutic journey with us.

From your very first session, our team is committed to providing compassionate, expert care in a warm, welcoming and confidential environment.
